Locking Up

My Kindle keyboard has suddenly started to lock up.
It began this weekend- I have a 3G model not quite 2 years old.
It will boot up from the reset button.
Sometimes it will let me open a book and read other times it just locks up-It especially does not like book of the web.
It has not updated to 3.4 yet ...
Is this terminal software death or something else -It has not suffered any trauma in its life (slight hairline cracks on the bottom 2 corners but they all do that sir)
I am stumped - very sad as it stood me in good stead when living abroad for a year .
Any thoughts ?

RE: Locking Up

Mine used to freeze when I did a highlight.
After the upgrade I don't think it's frozen once.

While you are at it, feed the birds too. Thumbs Up And come and talk about it at Garden Wildlife Forum

RE: Locking Up

If it's not too much trouble (i.e. if you don't have a lot of books stored on your Kindle) you could try a reset to factory default. You'll need to re-register it and put your books back on it once you do that, but it's the next logical step if a simple reboot isn't helping.

I've been having problems with my Kindle freezing when the wi-fi connection is turned on, I thought the reset to factory default hadn't worked as initially it was still freezing up, but I left it for a few minutes and it eventually worked. Very slowly to start with but it now seems to be fine.

RE: Locking Up

My Kindle 3G keyboard has frozen quite a few tiimes. But usually it's just a case of turning it off (completely) and then getting it to reboot, and everything sorts itself out.

Going to try a new battery (checked out ifixit.com) Known problem.
Spoke to Amazon.com and they were helpful - until they realised I was now living in the UK.
I was offered 20% off a new kindle (remember my 3g kindle is out of warranty) so thats cool.
I,ve bought a new battery on Amazon so will report back - I would be unhappy to give up my 3g .

Let us know how you get on with the battery replacement - mine's OK but would be interested in knowing "just in case".

RE: Locking Up

I've been having the same freezing probs. First time, after gently waxing the leather case. It took a lot of switch manipulation to get it to reboot. More recently - on a flight to the US, both ways, it continuously froze. Happened once since returning home. I'm expecting it to die very soon but at two years old, disappointed with Amazon and their lack of interest in this problem.

I'm suspecting it is something to do with static/external electrical influence so I'm trying to be gentle with it.

Eventually I shall have to replace it I guess, but not sure which way to jump. Any thoughts? Or shall I post this part elsewhere?
