Book on Kindle, but not showing.

We have borrowed a touch screen Kindle to try it before we buy one.

It already has a number of books on it, but when we plug Kindle in to a computer, there are more books listed than displayed on the Kindle itself. How can this be?

One example is a book in MOBI file format which, co-incidentally, we have already on our older Kindle. When we go to HOME on the borrowed Kindle this book is not displayed but the identical book in identical format displays on the older Kindle.

Any ideas why the title should not be displayed and/or how to have it listed?

Is it in the right folder?
I have mobi's on mine and they go into the documents folder.
My Kindle is a keyboard version though not a touch.

Yes, it is in the Documents folder along with all the titles which are displayed on the Kindle.

Do you have the kindle reader for pc?
If you copy the file from the Kindle touch, can it be read on the kindle pc reader thing, or even on your original kindle?
Sometimes files can get corrupted.

No, I do not have the Kindle reader for PC.

However, in the last few minutes, I have copied the file in question from the Kindle Touch to our original Kindle (having first deleted that file from the original Kindle), where it displays perfectly and can be read. Very strange!

I cannot raise the problem with the guy who lent us his Touch, to see if he is aware of it, as he is away on holiday at present.

Curious.
I've not come across that problem myself. I read a lot of mobi or prc on my kindle. I've had files not display correctly on the Kindle, but they will on the kindle for pc.
I mainly use it for cookery books.

I have just listed, on the PC, all the books which are on the Kindle, and find that there are about a dozen which do not display on the Kindle itself, not just the one which I originally identified. From a brief check of a couple more of them, they are all MOBI files, so completely baffled.
