What I Read

A Little Annoyance

Does this happen to anyone else. I have had my Kindle around 2 weeks now and it has done this from the very start.

When I download a book and then go to read it, it doesn't take me to the front of the book. It takes me past the cover, past the contents and sometimes to the first page, but other times 3 or 4 pages into the book.

I know its not a difficult thing for me to scroll back but I would like to be able to start at the start.

Has this been a problem for anybody else?

I thought all books started on the first page of the story.

Mine always starts at the first page of the actual story. I've never had it go several pages in.

Mine also starts at the first page. Amazon seem to think it should be that way, but I'd also much prefer to see the cover first.

I agree. Perhaps it's being used to real books. Not sure about wading through the acknowledgements and dedicaions and more blurb, but I like to see the cover.
Perhaps it's something that I'll grow out of, who knows.

RE: A Little Annoyance

The books I've read have all opened at the first page of the story. I would prefer it to be the cover also. What I would really like is if the cover of the book I'm reading could be the screen saver instead of those boring pencils and such like that I have now.

This is a 'feature' - there is a special bookmark in the Kindle file which indicates the start of the text. (And now that Amazon require the cover to be uploaded separately it can't even be tweaked by the publisher.)

RE: A Little Annoyance

Right, thank you for all your responses so at least I know it's not just me. I would prefer to start with the front cover though, for authenticity.

I will double check about starting a few pages in. Maybe I have been getting a bit over zealous with the page flicker.

RE: A Little Annoyance

When you open a book, instead of flicking back a few pages to get right to the front, press Menu > Go to > Cover.

That'd be great wouldn't it, you should email Amazon and suggest that as a new feature. Thumbs Up
