RE: Looking for 100 word storiesHere's my first go - exactly 100 words - if I'm allowed to exclude the title. No Lucky Stone It had to be good. It could have been good. It should have been good. I planned it all: the hand-in-hand walk along the beach, the playful searching of the rockpools for anemones and starfish. I often find a pretty little red pebble with a hole in it, a ‘lucky stone’; I had a leather braid in my pocket to make her a necklace. I’d booked lunch in that cosy restaurant on the quay, and reserved the table in the window with the view of the harbour. I thought it would be so very good. But she didn’t turn up. |

None called to step back, none below looked up. No one would call emergency; someone would call maintenance. The last of his family, all others hunted down and killed before him, he must follow through with his animal desires. Hated, despised, ignored by the people around him, safety always came at the rooftop. Even there, barriers tried to stop him seeking the edge. He stepped into space. Gravity stopped.
