Offering feedback/suggestions is too time-consuming and spoon-feeding people unnecessarily. People need to realise they aren't entitled to be featured automatically and that they have to work for it. If they aren't featured, they need to reflect as to why and work it out themselves. It should be obvious, surely...

Is it a story? Yes.
Is it well-written? Yes.
Is it 100 words? Yes.
You'll probably be featured.

Is it a story and not just an incident? Yes.
Is it well-written? Yes.
Is it free of grammar and spelling errors. Yes
Is it exactly 100 words? Yes.

That may be a bit long, but you get the gist.
That's a good idea, Julie. Very tactfully written.

There's no other publishing platform which guarantees publication of everything submitted. Some people have a huge sense of entitlement.

RE: Introducing Drabble Hippo

Ya, I got the sense that the crux of the matter was disappointment about not being featured, masquerading as a complaint about the lack of feedback.

I've amended the page to include Julie's suggestion, although the change won't be rolled out until I do a site update this week.

RE: Introducing Drabble Hippo

I've just had another message, this time on Faceboook, from somebody who's frustrated that their drabbles were removed without notification. On the one hand, I'm grateful for submissions and don't want to deter people. but on the other hand, it's not a feedback platform. When people submit articles to newspapers, they don't get breakdowns if their work isn't used.

Drabble submissions have been low for a while now, and I think perhaps it might be time to bring the slot to a close. What do you think? Is there something you'd like instead?

Maybe we could submit some famous quotes on writing (or add some of our own) Rolleyes

I like the drabbles but if few are writing them then perhaps it is time to alternate them with Jan's good idea of writing a good 'quote' or using famous writing quotes.  Even I can give you some famous ones!
