I agree. I think it's a case of 'the emperor's new clothes'. Perhaps we need another button that says "don't understand this one.' Rolleyes

Is anybody else moderating?

There are some Drabbles that disqualify themselves with spelling errors, or other obvious mistakes, but there are others that confuse me and I'm not sure about, and I wonder if it's just me that doesn't 'get it'. Pondering
I am moderating and I agree, there are some where the point eludes me. Maybe more moderators looking at them would help. I know one of my drabbles recently had some feedback from people simply not getting it, so the wider the range of opinions the better.

I have seen three drabbles in a row by the same author where the 'twist' is that the narrator is a pet!
Yes, the pet ones became a tad predictable, but I wasn't sure if they all warranted a rejection.

RE: Introducing Drabble Hippo

I wondered why there are often drabbles in the queue with 3-4 moderation marks whilst others have none - they must be the ones nobody gets.

I definitely prefer drabbles that don't spoon feed the reader, but if the majority of people don't get them after the second or third read, posting them won't really benefit anybody.

I tend to skip over ones I don't get or like, when they don't merit rejection. I also skip over batches when there are loads from the same author.

I think there are a few things at play here.
1. As writers we have all probably felt the sting of rejection and are reluctant to do it to fellow writers.
2. I get the impression that some writers are sacrificing quality for quantity.
3. Many of the drabbles have a promising story line but would improve with some judicious editing.
4. I've found that by putting aside a drabble for at least a week, and then re-reading it with fresh eyes, will highlight areas where improvements can be made., What made sense on the first reading may be a little obscure  on the second reading.
The conclusion is that the drabbles with no moderation marks are expected to be moderated by the web master as she is the final judge of the quality of work that appears on her website Tongue.Big Grin

I would moderate more often but am so pushed for time.

I have to confess that I miss the brilliance of earlier drabbles - those with a killer, punchy twist. It's lacking in so many recent ones.

RE: Introducing Drabble Hippo

If you have time, please moderate some drabbles.

I can give you big 'yes/no' buttons and a game show, if that's what it takes. ;-)
