Anyone tried paid Facebook adverts?

Has anyone tried using Facebook adverts as a way of promoting your novels? If so, did you have much in the way of success?

As an experiment, I have created an advert targeted at those who have liked "Amazon Kindle", over 16 years old, and live in the UK, US, Canada and Australia. I'm bidding 20p per 1000 impressions for a maximum of £10 per day for 3 days. This works out at potentially 50,000 impressions per day.

I don't expect such a small campaign to be all that successful, and it's going to be a loss maker unless I get something stupid like 1 sale for every 150 impressions. As I say, it's just an experiment.

I'll let you all know the results of the campaign, and am interested in hearing from anyone else who has had a go.

The problem with Facebook adverts to sell one book is that the estimated royalty from a sale is likely to be so low that you would need an unrealistic click/sale conversion rate for it to be effective.

You'd be much better off using Facebook ads to get page fans because you can use a page to promote multiple products multiple times.

This is very true. I might just run the campaign for a day, for a tenner, and then do the same for the the page I created, again for a tenner and compare the results.

Are you familiar with KDP Select free days? They are, arguably, the best form of promotion there is right now.

A Danish writer friend has used Facebook ads quite successfully though ebooks are not a huge success here yet.

But she sells erotic novels (which means many readers prefer buying them discreetly online), and Danish books cost more than English ones which means her royalty per book is higher.

Yes, I am. I am waiting to get a few more reviews (I only have one 4* review so far) before I do a free day as suggested in other threads in action today.
