I plead guilty to using the Chapter 1, 2 etc TOC in my books. WhistleWhistle
I think it's probably more useful for me to move around the book as I set up the ebook than it is for the reader. There is an opinion that it should not be placed at the front of the book, as this just uses up some of Amazon's free preview space, which should really be devoted to the story.

HOWEVER... if it is at the *end* and then you visit it, it stuffs-up the furthest read point, which will now always be the end of the book!! (At least on iPad.)
