Gladiatrix--some information and ideas needed please.

Until now I've been able to use my own photographs for my e-book covers, but I have split from my agent because she was too busy to give my work the attention it needed to sell it.

So I'm going to e-publish both books on Kindle.

This leaves me with a problem for the cover of Gladiatrtix, an Adventure set in early Second Century AD. I tried drawing something in Photoshop, to make it look like a mosaic, but quite frankly, it looks like a cartoon out of a comic, and just isn't sexy enough.

People do judge a book by its cover

I can't just grab a photo off the internet, naturally, besides which, the images of a female retiarius are non-existent.

My thoughts are to amalgamate photos of a gladiator helmet or two with a mysterious female face and swirling mists etc.

Not only have I got to find these photos, I have to learn how to amalgamate photos in photoshop to get the image I have in mind.

How does one go about buying images off the internet, please? How much am I likely to have to pay?

Lots of authors on here have professional-looking covers. How do you get them, please?

No help on that, but I'm wondering if you should change the title of your thread as people might not come visiting, thinking it's a promo or a "how does my cover look".

You could try istockphoto.com or bigstock.com - prices are usually around £10 - 15 although it does vary.

I've seen that image, and it's completely wrong, unfortunately. The woman looks wrong, the clothing is just wrong, the pose is... wrong.

Someone has told me they know a female gladiator, which might solve the problems.

I considered digging out the paints but I suspect I'd find it hard to get what's in my head down on paper, because I find painting the human figure very hard to do.
