What I Read

Product description text losing all paragraph breaks

This is a problem I've had recently and I wondered if anyone else had?

I made a minor correction to my short story Friend Request a few days ago and re-uploaded the file to Amazon. Once published, I noticed that the product description, the 'blurb' of the story, was now displaying in one block of text, without any paragraph breaks.

I re-uploaded a couple more times but the problem remained. Then I emailed KDP customer support, and today I received this message:

Quote: I'm sorry for the trouble you're having with the Product Description not showing up as intended on the UK Kindle store. Our technical team is aware of this problem and is working hard to fix it as soon as possible.

It looks like this may be a broader problem, affecting all newly-uploaded books on the UK store.

So if you're planning to upload any books to Amazon soon, it might be worth holding back until they have solved this. Admittedly it's not a major problem, but it does look a bit amateurish having your blurb in one giant paragraph! Confused

I wonder if it's expecting HTML format. You could try wrapping it with <p> tags or add <br><br> at the end of each para.

Of course it could just end up looking even worse Big Grin

That did occur to me but like you say, it could end up publishing the HTML tags!

I've never had to format the text before. It's pasted in from Notepad so I know it has no formatting code within it. This does seem to be an error on their side.

Maybe it's just me, if nobody else has come across this?

Bother it, this has just happened to me. When I first publishged Blood Will Out irt was fine. I copied and pasted in the product desacription.

Today I changed the genres, didn't touch the product description, and when I loooked just now it was all lumped together. Looked awful. So I put some paragraph breaks in again and saved that. So annoying as Spigg's Wood is free tomorrow (well, today, I suppose.)

Linda, mine was corrected. I haven't had an email explaining or apologising, but the text did go back to normal. So I suggest emailing and letting them know.

Thanks David. I'll see if the correction has corrected itself tomorrow.

It ought to be simple, they imply that it's simple, but it isn't. And I hate emailing KDP because they've never dealt with my queries efficiently.

I've had the problem where changes never updated - I got the standard 'congratulations you have published' email but the blurb hadn't been updated.
An email sorted the problem out, although it took a couple of days.

Every time I run a promotion something happens. Last time it was the UK counter locking up.
