Generally, I'd say it worked against you. I won't bother with the Booker shortlist as I'd consider them literary and I don't read that sort of book, if it's one of the others I probably haven't heard of it so I'll assume it's some Mickey Mouse competition and again, not bother.

Winning one will increase sales, sure, but the chances of a self-published author winning? Infinitesimal. Even for the established there's no guarantee (how do you define best?):
