Display of uploaded file is different to 6 months ago

I have been uploading Word files for a whilebut had a six month break. I now find the same file uploaded again has the first line of every paragraph indented, which is not what I want.

This line should not be indented at all and the paragraph should be like it just to be with all line starting in the first column.

This line will be indented to demonstrate the problem, but the next line below it will start at the left hand side as excepted. Six months
ago, all lines looked like the first couple of paragraphs, while now all paragraphs looks like this one with the indent. (Ignore the blank line, this is just trying to so the effect in the forum.)

I have posed this problem to Kindle support. They are pondering. I have discovered it happens to me, even if I just sent a plain .txt file up to the Kindle with no conversion. So something has changed somewhere. The original file is also on the Kindle and still displays as expected. The problem makes short line flowing text odd, because the first line gets indented and it is a right pain. I have found no cure.

I have uploaded OS 3.4 and it is not better than 3.3, but I don't know when this broke.

Has anyone
else seen this and has anyone got a solution?

Many thanks.

What I Read

RE: Display of uploaded file is different to 6 months ago

This is the 'correct' default behaviour. I wasn't keen on it at first, but when I started Googling around it quickly became clear that this is what many readers prefer. Like it or not, there are an awful lot if pedants out there who believe this to be 'correct' and who will complain, loudly and bitterly, if you change it.

However, if you really want to force it, it is perfectly possible, just Google for 'Kindle force indent'.

Thumbs Down Oh dear - that is a change and it actually breaks things for me and it is what happens when I just send a non-indented document to the Kindle. If I wanted the paragraph first line indented, I would have the document set up that way. This now means as opposed to just sending the document, I have to create a HTML version and then somehow turn that behavious off. Much more work required.

OK - thank you for that. After a little searching and quite a bit of fiddlinh in Word, I have the default paragraph setup with a first line indent of 0.01 cm which is invisible, BUT enough to stop the Kindle default first line indent.

Just wish Kindle support had information about this and when they changed it, but it is funny how often users know more than support does.Rolleyes
