RE: Bookclub: Suggestions for the book to read during October

There's been an upsurge in interest in the work of Ford Madox Ford, mainly driven by Tom Stoppard's adaptation currently serialised on the BBC and the recent documentary, also on the BBC.
The series is called Parade's End, the name of the tetralogy comprising the author's four novels published in the 1920s and set around WW1.
The first three of the books is available as a trilogy for only 77p Parade's End
I wouldn't suggest the whole trilogy for one month's Book Club read, but may I suggest buying the trilogy and we only read the first novel called 'Some Do Not.'
Given that Graham Greene, Peter Ackroyd, A S Byatt and W H Auden all rave about his work, Ford comes pretty highly recommended.

I was going to re-recommend the book I recommended last month Broken Places which is an incredible story, but I see the book has now gone way up in price, so I'm going to have to think again. I'll be back! Big Grin

I'm going to recommend a book by KUF author, Helen Smith.

The Miracle Inspector by Helen Smith.

A dystopian thriller set in the near future. England has been partitioned and London is an oppressive place where poetry has been forced underground, theatres and schools are shut, and women are not allowed to work outside the home. A young couple, Lucas and Angela, try to escape from London - with disastrous consequences.

The book is £1.99. I downloaded it recently when I came across a review Helen had posted, but I haven't got around to reading it yet. Sounds interesting.

This book is now £4.53. Still, I would be happy to pay that from what I've heard of it.

I am going to suggest Florence and Giles by John Harding£1.99. The story is based on Henry James's Turn of the Screw. This is in the theme of a Gothic Horror novel.

I also like the idea of the first book in the Parades End series.
