What I Read

Paperwhite

I have placed a pre-order for the Kindle Paperwhite.

At the moment I have a Kindle Touch, I have a lot of books and a very complex set of catalogues on it.  Is there any way of backing up the KT and loading/restoring the settings and the numerous books on to the Paperwhite when it arrives?

RE: Paperwhite

I don't think you'll just be able to do a straight copy of the actual books (if they are ones purchased from Amazon) to a new Kindle even if it's on the same account unfortunately due to the DRM tying them to a particular device. I would think copying the catalogues may be possible if you are prepared to hand edit the files, but I wouldn't swear to it at this stage.

It may be easier to tell for sure once we see the Paperwhite.

Just had a response from Amazon ..... It seems all the books are available to download to the new device if you first de-Register the old one and then register the new one.
As to transferring the catalouge structure, zilch in their reply, so it looks like I'll have to re-build it, unless someone out there knows differently......... ??? Living in hope!

You don't have to deregister the old one in order to transfer the books to the new one. Just register the new one to the same account and they should show up on Kindle in the Archive. From the Archive you can select the book and download it to the Kindle. You can also do this from your Amazon account on the website via Manage Your Kindle, you can resend any book to any device registered on your account.

Hi I think I may have posted a little confusion ..... I think Amazon are saying I had to de-register as I'm selling the KT and the buyer won't be able to use it if I don't de-register it.

Sorry ..........

I bought my Kindle Touch from a guy in the US at a very good price and he was great to deal with. I had it sent via surface mail at a cost of £23.00 which took about two weeks to get to me on the Costa del Sol.

At the moment I'm in contact with him via eBay, he says he will have the PaperWhite this week, for delivery after the 3rd of October (release date in the US)

As soon as it appears on his eBay site I am going to place a pre-order with him,

If you want the details as soon as I've successfully placed the order I'll post them.

I don't know if the forum will allow me to give the details for an eBay seller or not though.

Error above ...........the cost of delivery was in $ not £ ie $23.23

Not a problem tecknoes, but I am encouraging people to read http://www.kuforum.co.uk... first before they take the plunge.
