Charger and Cover, essential items? (FIRE HD)

or optional accessories?

Looking on Amazon yesterday I realised that if I want my Fire to charge with any decent speed, the charger is an extra £17.99!!
13 HOURS for a charge via USB otherwise. No guarantee that'll work as my KindleKeyboard hasn't been able to charge via USB for about a year or so!.
So longer to charge than the battery life.

The charger in the US is a huge $9.99 HMmmm, and of course the charger is a different style, so no importing one for half the price.

The cases (which now have more variation in the UK) will come in at around the same price as the US I think (£37.99, $44.99) once VAT, postage, etc are taken into account.

The original fire did come with a mains charger, although not a rapid one. Takes about 3-4 hours for a full charge. May be worth taking a look at http://www.maplin.co.uk

The original Fire charger isn't compatible with the HD version.
Now wondering if the USB cable provided will fit into the Kindle plug? but will be a slow charge I guess.

Today i pre-ordered the 32GB Kindle Fire HD @ 199 pounds.. I really think the charger should have been included in that price.
To be realistic you really do have to have a charger, I mean no-one want's to be charging via USB for 13 hour's!
I think Amazon should at least consider adding the charger in with the price of the Kindle Fire.Rolleyes

It's only 13 if you do it from a computer or a laptop. Pretty much any decent mains charger will put out a lot more current than these.

If you have the one off an iphone, or any usb adapter for the mains, it will charge in no time, its not different to the time to charge up a mobile.

Ive never bothered with charging from my laptop or pc

And you'll get a decent enough case on eBay for no more than a tenner, the one for my KF is superb, folds so I can stand it up easy.

RE: Charger and Cover, essential items? (FIRE HD)

I do hope that no-one thinks my commentary to be rude, but I'm not sure if the original query has been answered - and I'm very interested in the outcome.

Is the accelerated plug-charger-thing really necessary? To me it just looks like a black plug for a USB cable. Couldn't I just use the white normally-shaped-uk-plug-thingy from my KK?

Thanks
Paul
