Kobo ereaders hit WHSmith

According to the Kobo website, the Kobo Glo (£99.99), their equivalent of the Paperwhite, and the Kobo Mini (£59.99), a 5" model, should now be in stores.

The Arc, their 7" Android tablet should be available from November (no pricing yet).

RE: Kobo ereaders hit WHSmith

Sorry Leep, but having bought a basic Kobo wireless (non touch version) AND the basic kindle.. both at about same price (59.99 at WH Smith and 64GBP kindle at airport - less tax)... KINDLE GETS TOP VOTE! Had to sell on Kobo (as WHSmith wouldn't give a refund????) as it was worse than useless. Totally frustrating!

As long as Kindle keep their basic model price down.. would recommend it over Kobo anytime!

PS - I am not associated with either company.. I just know what I like!

I think Amazon really still have the monopoly on ereaders, but it's good to know that Kobo are trying to offer a more varied market in the UK. I'm sure they'll get better in time.....says the man who still reads on his iPhone!

Hi GW.. Kobo had my full attention.. but failed at the hurdle - on actual ease of use. I am a very savvy tecno user (and can adapt to most things), but found it totally frustrating. Not that the basic Kindle is 'the best', but at least it has a more fluid feel and more solid construction. Just wondering what happens tho when the built in Li-on/litium? battery needs replacing Wink

PS - Still can't believe second hand kobos are selling for more than the new priced ones on Ebay - daily!
Someone ought to tell people out there if you keep your eye open WHSmith's reduce the basic model to 49.99 from time to time!!! (In store and on-line Wink But worth paying the extra IMO for a kindle after all (just glad they did reduce basic price to something I could afford in the end.) Smile

Completely understand this. If you have a great marketplace, good book prices and something different from a Kindle, it needs to stand up to rigorous testing and offer easy use. Seems like it's a Kobo fail for now. I'll be interested to see what happens over the next year or two though....I wouldn't count them out just yet. Smile

I think at this point Amazon is to ereaders what Apple is to smartphones and tablets. There will be other contenders, but they'll be also-rans rather than actual competitors.

Good to get feedback on the hardware though. I was worried about compatibility with the books I already own more than anything else (so not intending to buy one) but if they fail that test too then it really is a nail in the coffin.
