10 Reasons to buy a book (US results are in!)

This post was last modified: 10 Mar 2012 11:27 AM by Ken Magee.
Please choose ALL the options which influence your decision to buy a book.... most readers have more than one reason.

I've collected a selection of reasons why readers buy books from a number of posts, forums and blogs.

I thought it would be interesting to place 10 of them in a poll and see what comes out on top. It would also be a great help to authors who can check if they hit the spot with their respective books.

RE: 10 Reasons to buy a book

Thats a difficult one ...
Although the cover & title are what first draw me in, It's not the reason I buy.
The blurb comes next, then reviews, then sample.
Then I buy or diss.

Before this it may or may not have been recommended, or seen here on KUF.

Sorry can't vote for one as my buying method is a process.

I've clicked on quite a few of the options, - meaning there is not one thing that makes me choose a book, it is a combination, least of all was the design of the cover page.

RE: 10 Reasons to buy a book

Like Kaska and Susanne I don't think I have one particular singular reason for buying a book, it tends to be a process but before voting I sat down and thought about my main reason for buying my most recent purchases and it all came down to the first option in the majority of cases.

While new (to me) authors and even some favourite all time authors will result in me going to and fro going through several of your options before deciding whether or not to hit that buy button. In the large majority of cases I decide mainly on the strength of the previous books I've read by that author.

The more I've read and enjoyed an author the less procrastination required. In the end previous books are a big motivator to me.

Me either but I find that my decision stands when I truly think about the question. Still my number one choice if I was to choose more than one.

Ditto ........ and looking at the results so far it seems I chose the most popular reasons. Ah, it's good to feel 'normal' Wink

RE: 10 Reasons to buy a book

I answered this yesterday, and i gave my answers as how I would usually choose a book. It occurred to me this morning that on a couple of occasions I have been "haunted" by an ebook through advertising, usually by virtue of the cover. Obvious example being here with Fake Kate. So although I wouldnt normally use this as a method of choosing, it does seem to have its place in my life !

Just thought I'd mention it, as not many people have picked either of these two options...
