RE: Grammar blind spots?![]() Practise and practice - remember there is a verb, is, in practise, so that's the verb, and a noun, ice, in practice, so that's the noun. All the others I have to think about or look up. |

RE: Grammar blind spots? As an aside, my partner was saying last night that even though people putting an 's' on 'you' for plural grinds on his nerves, he can't deny the logic. What do ewes think? |

RE: Grammar blind spots? The one I'm starting to have a complex about is 'that' and 'which'. No matter how much I check usage and think it's straight in my mind,. whenever I write something like 'Johnny stole the car that was the brightest and biggest' I end up thinking how many cars there are and how many are bright and big, and how much easier it would be if Johnny wasn't so fussy and just 'stole a car'. And I've read best-sellers with examples that seems wrong to me. Some of these things are plain wrong, but some due to over thinking - like the syndrome where if you stare at any word long enough you think it's not spelt properly because just doesn't look right.. Oh, and yes, I'm forever typing 'form' instead of 'from', but that's not me, it's just my dyslexic fingers. |
